HHO Hydrogen Gas
HHO - It's history, advantages, safety, and HHO as fuel for today.
Hydrogen (HHO) gas as a fuel is not a new scientific development. HHO technology has a rich history spanning nearly 100 years - with several notable inventors putting their name to various processes and patented hho generation systems along the way.
Although 'Big Oil' entities and even 'big government' have been successful at keeping this technology sidelined and unavailable to the general public, HHO gas has experienced a huge rise in attention and resulting technology advancements of late. We can thank the out-of-control gas prices, Global Warming, and uncertain future for the availability of foreign oil for FINALLY pushing HHO gas fuel technology back into the light.
History of HHO Gas
It was this incident which seeded the thought of burning water into this young man's mind. Although he went on to become an electrical engineer, life way too difficult for this man during the Second World War and in the years after that. Soon after being denounced by his wife (A Communist) as "Enemy to the people", he was sent to a concentration camp for six years hard labor. This was followed was Five year jail imprisonment in Turkey on charges of being a "Spy".
After years of trauma, he was finally able to immigrate to Australia in 1957 with the help of US Army intelligence. It was here that he changed his name to Yull Brown and started working for an Australian firm. His enormous and well refined Electrical engineering skills soon earned him a lot of respect at this firm.
After working there for Ten years, he again began to work again on his earlier dreams of creating "Fire from water". Although an Inventor at heart, Yull soon realized that it's not enough to simply invent a new device but rather equal innovation is required in order to sell it. Finally, in 1972 he began working on his "Fire from water" experiments.
This was followed by years of experiments and toil before he was able to operate a vehicle engine on his HHO gas generator. This story of operating an engine on water spread like wildfire around Australia. His entire experiment was shot live by a television crew and rumors stated an auxiliary kit of around $400 which would operate a vehicle for a year on ten Gallons of water.
This was further followed by a public demonstration in which Brown proceeded through a series of experiments which showed 'impossible' effects and their industrial viability. Some of these experiments included the production of colorless flame, waving his hand through this flame that would have burnt his skin had it been an oxyacetylene flame etc. He also made a fairly neat hole by burning through fire brick like wood. He also turned a Tungsten rod from solid to gas thereby claiming that the flame changes temperature depending upon the material with which it comes into contact. This was followed by several welding experiments in which he welded Aluminum to Aluminum with no inert gas. Then he welded Aluminum to Brass and fused glass to a brick.
All of these experiments were done by generating HHO gas 'on demand' using water and electricity. Moreover, the gas torch was simpler to operate since there is no mixing or storage of gas like the oxy acetylene torch. In addition, the gas production involved very little cost.
Brown then used a Ford Perfect, V8 Engine to prove that his mixture can be used to run a vehicle. Brown pointed that the exhaust would be nothing but pure water vapor and in order to test his claim he actually drank the steam coming out of the exhaust pipe! This Ford operated over 1000 Hours in the shop and made several trips around Sydney. Brown claimed that one Gallon of water will power a car for 1000 miles even with explosion technology since this is exactly what happens when Brown gas is mixed with air going into the engine.
- Very little interest was shown in this invention from business point of view. Reason being that there is huge inertia for companies to simply continue with what they know and have invested in. In order to gain their interest you have to come up with really something huge which can tackle this inertia head on.
- Even though most of the experiments demonstrated by Brown were successful, there was a general disbelief in this new technology. Not just from scientific community but this disbelief was also shared by individuals, companies, learning institutions and government agencies. Brown was called to explain the theory behind his experiments but he was not able to do so satisfactorily. Rather, Brown famously pointed out that his job as an inventor is to develop practical uses for a demonstrable effect rather than to precisely define the theory behind those effects.
- Partially, Yull Brown himself acted as a bottle neck to his invention thereby suppressing its popularity. He spent a large amount of his time and money defending his patents and proprietary innovations. He also kept a lot of critical information to himself which further added another hindrance to the development to his technology. Such sort of bottle necks further impedes the development of any new technology since other inventors have to wait till his patents run out and hence he can no longer control or receive much benefit from his research.
- Perhaps the biggest hindrance in the development of his work was both passive and direct interference from "vested interest" which controlled technology which would be made obsolete by Brown's "Water for gas" technology. Several shots were actually fired into his kitchen and he traveled by a special vehicle to protect himself. Several attempts were made to slander him and they were mostly successful. For several years after his successful demonstrations, he was able to accomplish very little.
Understandably, Yull Brown was extremely discouraged due to these factors and hence started looking to other nations for the development of his technology. Although, he did found the interest of a few individuals and companies in the US, none of them were willing to put the resources in his research.
Finally, after much thought, he accepted to present his technology to the Chinese People's Republic. The Chinese made further advancement in his technology and developed the water torches to a marketable item. Yull Brown died on May 22, 1998 in Auburn, Australia.
HHO - Advantages of Using HHO Gas
HHO gas is a mixture of hydrogen, Oxygen and water vapor. Water breaks down during electrolysis to form Brown's gas. There are several advantages of using HHO gas, some of which are:
- Several experiments indicate that the reason HHO gas is useful for adding to the combustion of fossil fuel is because the hydrogen atoms and the flame actually act as a catalyst. A catalyst is a substance which does not directly takes part in a chemical reaction but rather hastens the reaction due to its presence. In this case, the Hydrogen atoms simply assist in breaking apart the fuel molecule bonds faster and by using less energy. This simply leaves more fuel energy for the engine to convert to mechanical energy and hence the overall efficiency of the engine is dramatically increased. Also, since less energy is utilized for breaking the fuel molecules, the engine operating temperature rises far less which leads to less operational wear and tear of the engine.
- HHO gas consists of Hydrogen in its atomic form. Meaning, Hydrogen is present independently and not in molecular bonding with Oxygen (Like in water). This Hydrogen helps in burning the fuel more smoothly which in turn increases its effective 'Octane' rating. It's important to note here, that every fuel has an octane rating attached to it and higher the rating, higher is the quality of fuel. Other engine wearing factors such as detonation, knock and pre-ignition are also considerably reduced due to the presence of Hydrogen.
- As mentioned earlier, 'catalytic' effect hastens the petroleum based fuel combustion which in turn increases the engine efficiency.
- Presence of HHO gas also degrades the environment harming properties of the exhaust. It has been estimated that pollution and exhaust opacity in exhaust readings are usually reduced by about 40% and in some cases they can be dropped to almost zero.
- Due to the presence of water (In vapor form) in HHO gas, the engine runs cleaner. This is due to the fact that most of the carbon particles and acids are washed away by water vapors and then are released as exhaust. This results in less frequent oil changes.
- As explained earlier, due to washing effect of water, carbon buildup on engine components is considerably reduced. This results in longer engine life by reducing erosion of metal. Heat conduction is also improved in the engine as a result of which temperature rise can be easily controlled by the cooling effect of water.
- Since HHO gas is a mixture of Oxygen, Hydrogen, and water vapor, the extra water vapor and Oxygen increases combustion efficiency far more than Hydrogen alone. The energy potential of HHO gas is approximately three times than that of Hydrogen. Moreover, since Brown gas does not use oxygen from the air to burn, it does not require Oxygen like that required by normal fuel.
